Schüsserlbrunn

Schüsserlbrunn is a popular excursion destination and a frequently visited pilgrimage church located at the "Lantschmauer" at the foot of the highest mountain in the region, the Hochlantsch. The wooden chapel, situated at an altitude of 1,363 meters above sea level, is accessible only on foot.

The doors to the church are open for masses (May - October), allowing visitors to look inside. Otherwise, the church can be visited year-round, but the doors remain closed.

The name "Schüsserlbrunn" derives from the healing spring that emerges from the rock wall and is collected in small "stone basins," reputed to have healing properties, especially for eye ailments. Numerous myths and legends surround this location.

Today, several services are held annually in the chapel, mainly on Marian feast days, and the church continues to be a popular destination for pilgrim groups adept at hiking. From the "Steirischer Jockl" inn—a favored spot for a rest and break with breathtaking views—visitors descend 198 steps to the chapel.

The pilgrimage church can be reached via several hiking paths: • Hochlantsch Circuit: Loop trail from Teichalm, 15 km / 550 meters elevation gain • Through the Bärenschützklamm: Starting from Breitenau or Mixnitz, approx. 25 km / 1,345 meters elevation gain • Pastor Kelz Pilgrimage Trail: Starting from the St. Erhard pilgrimage church in Breitenau, approx. 12 km / 732 meters elevation gain
