The Sattelberg is a peak rich in history, as this area was once used as a "smugglers' path" on the border with Italy. The starting point of the tour is about 100 m from the train station at Brenner on the Italian side, the end point is in Gries am Brenner in Austria. The path through woods and open terrain is very easy and can also be done with children from 10 years on. On the descent you should definitely stop at the rustic Sattelbergalm and let yourself be spoilt with culinary delicacies.
DIRECTIONS
The starting point is the car park in the centre of Brenner, a little south of the St. Valentine Chapel. From the train station, cross the road twice and walk a little to the left to a car park below the mountain slope. From there the path 3B starts and winds its way up through the forest. Once you have passed the first steep passage, the terrain opens up and you come to a forest path (no. 3A), which you follow upwards over open terrain. At a fork in the path, stay on forest path no. 1, which climbs to the Sattelberg. At the end of the forest path it is only a short distance along trail nr. 13 to the summit with a cross. At the top you have a wonderful view of the Stubai and Tux Alps. The descent is via the Jubiläumsteig (no. 4), which runs along the ridge and leads into a forest path (no. 81) in the forest. At the former ski lift station you can then descend to the right to the Sattelbergalm. From there trail nr. 80 leads over the old ski slope into the valley and to Gries am Brenner.

This route hike is ideal for travelling by public transport, as you can take the train (S4) to the Brenner Pass and then the bus from Gries am Brenner to Steinach a. Br. and back again with the S4.
