In the 8th century, a protected fortification is said to have stood on a rocky promontory between Unterlangkampfen and Niederbreitenbach. Nowadays, apart from some railing features, there is no evidence left of the existence of this former castle. Nevertheless, the viewpoint above Langkampfen remains highly popular as a resting place for locals and tourists.
