March brings a fresh start! There’s still some time before the new hiking season begins, but SummitLynx is more than ready and is shining in its new, modern look. The new app design is now available for iOS, with Android to follow in a few weeks. We’ve summarized the most important updates here.

What's new?

Don't worry, SummitLynx is still SummitLynx: THE app for your digital summit and hiking logbook – available worldwide and always with you! You can continue to collect the official hiking badges in over 100 regions across Austria, Germany, and South Tyrol, and even earn additional badges… even when you're offline!

Here’s a quick overview of the new features:

1. Modern app design

Our app update features a completely redesigned interface that combines clarity, modernity, and functionality. This allows you to focus on what matters most: capturing your trips and experiences. The user interface was developed according to the latest design standards and offers a clean, modern look, controls adapted to the latest iOS standards, and faster navigation within the app.

2. Intuitive user interface

With the relaunch, the user interface was completely redesigned. Four main menu items provide a clear structure and integrate a cross-content search function directly into the navigation.

Menu item: For You

The “For You” tab is your personal starting point. Here you'll find all the content relevant to you, neatly organized in one place. A quick introduction after signing up or a reminder of your last entry greets you as soon as you open the app. If you’re at a stamping location, you can also create the entry right from here. Below that, you’ll discover the hiking badges for the region you’re in, including your progress, as well as nearby regions that will inspire you to explore new trails.

Your friends are also featured right on the “For You” screen. Check out their latest posts and get inspired. This section is complemented by the latest news and direct access to mySOS. This way, all the important features are always at your fingertips.

Menu item: Entry

The “Entry” tab is all about creating entries. Here you'll find a detailed overview of all destinations and stamp locations in your area, as well as notifications about missed destinations or entries you've been invited to join. You can also use this tab to create a new tour book entry—of course, only if you’re close enough to the destination. Other destinations in your vicinity are listed as well. This way, you can see at a glance which peaks, huts, or places are waiting for you to visit and how far you still have to go.

If you are within 300 meters of a destination, you can check in there - just like before. What’s new is that a red number icon right next to the “Entry” tab will let you know when this is the case. The destinations where you can check in can be found in the “Entry” tab or directly in the “For You” tab.

Menu item: Map

The map opens up new possibilities for your trip planning and navigation. Whether you’re currently in a region or planning your next hiking vacation, you’ll find suitable routes and hiking destinations here. Depending on the area you select, the stamp locations and routes will be displayed in the corresponding map section. The tooltip at the bottom of the screen provides detailed information. What works the same in the new app as in the old one: You can add an entry via the destination’s details page. There you’ll also find the hiking badges associated with each destination. If you want to plan for the long term, mark your desired destinations with the favorites feature.

The filters in the map view let you customize the display of the map and destinations/routes. In addition, there is now a current weather feature for each region.

Menu item: Search

The new search feature makes using the app so much easier! We’ve often been asked for custom search options—the new, cross-content search is the answer to all your questions! Enter a term and get all related results from our database. The Quicklinks also take you directly to the app’s most important content: all available hiking badges, all partner regions, your favorites list, your tour book, your friends list, your friends’ profiles, and of course the mySOS emergency feature.

3. Tap your profile picture to see everything at a glance:

Under the menu item “For You”, you’ll find your profile picture in the top-right corner. Clicking on it opens your personal dashboard, which provides a structured overview of your previous entries, your personal SummitLynx statistics, and the hiking badges you’ve earned.

You can also find all settings by clicking the gear icon in the top-right corner. Here, you can update your profile picture, name, or password.

Two really cool features:

  • You can manually sync your entries if they aren't automatically transferred after being saved via GPS.
  • You can also clear the app cache here if something gets stuck.

Du kannst hier auch den App-Cache löschen, falls etwas hängen bleibt.

FAQs About the New iOS App

If you have any questions about the new iOS version, check out our FAQs. If you can't find the answer to your question there, just contact us by email!

The new app now has just four main menu items, a “For You” page, and a more modern design. All the “old” features are still available, just with a fresh new look :-)

There are three ways to find your tour log:

1) If you've already made entries, you'll find your most recent entry in the “For You” tab. There's a link to your logbook there.

2) In the “Search” tab, you'll find a quick link labeled “My Tour Book.”

3) About your profile - your profile picture is in the “For You” tab at the top right. Tap it, and you'll see your latest posts.

There are two ways to make an entry in the tour log:

1) In the “For You” tab, right after the welcome message under “Check-In,” if you're already at your location.

2) On the “Entry” tab, you'll find all the locations near you and other location.

New:

  • If you're already at your location or have entry invitations or suggested entries, a red number icon will appear under the “Entry” menu item to let you know. However, you'll still need to confirm the entries manually.
  • In the input interface, you can now enter not only the duration and elevation gain of the hike in the additional information section, but also the distance!

In the “For You” tab, in the top right corner. Tap your profile picture, then tap the gear icon. There, you can change your name, email address, phone number, or password.

Be sure to check the boxes for certificates, newsletters, and giveaways so you don’t miss out on anything!

When you sign up, your profile is automatically set to private unless you choose to create a public account during registration. You can change your profile’s visibility at any time in your profile settings: In the “For You” tab, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner, then tap the gear icon. Under “Settings,” you’ll find the option to choose between a “Private Account” or a “Public Account” . A private account means that only you and your friends can see your posts, statistics, and earned hiking pins; a public account means that anyone can see your content, and it is also visible on the website (e.g., Wall of Fame) and in partner integrations (e.g., social walls on tourism region websites).

Tap your profile picture in the “For You” tab at the top right, then tap the gear icon. Under Settings, you'll find the ‘Security’ and “Change Password” options.

You can search directly for the name of a destination or a tour. In the “Map” menu, you can also zoom in on a selected map section and search for a location there. The wider the radius you select, the more locations will appear.

In the “Search” tab, you'll find “Locations”: Click on it to see your saved locations.

This works the same way as in the old app via the location's details page. You can either find the location on the map view and tap directly on it to go to the details page, or use the search function to find your desired location. You can add your hike using the “Add Entry” button—but, as before, you won't automatically earn hiking badge points this way.
