One of the core features of our app is collecting hiking badges (cycling badges, ski touring badges, etc.). There are two types of hiking badges: the official hiking badges from our partner regions and our own virtual badges.

Hiking badges of our partner regions

Our more than 100 partner regions set their own requirements for earning the pins. These requirements are described on the respective hiking badge detail page and in the corresponding list of locations.

You can earn most hiking badges multiple times. In addition, almost all of our partner regions offer you the option to pick up physical pins at their tourism offices upon presentation of the app confirmation. The exact locations and procedures are also described on the respective hiking badge page.

Here you will find the list of our partner regions >>

SummitLynx Badges

For users located outside our partner regions, and for anyone who wants to complete challenges in addition to the official regional hiking badges, we have our own achievement-based badges in our app. These are purely digital and are designed to keep you motivated >>

Here's how to find a specific hiking badge in the new iOS app

If you're already in the region you want to explore, you'll see the hiking badges available in that region on the “For You” screen. If you tap a hiking badge, you'll be taken to the hiking badge details page, where the requirements for earning the badge are described.

If you are not in the region you want, you can tap the “All Regions” link in the “Regions Nearby” section on the “For You” screen and search for the region there. Tap the region and scroll to the Hiking Badges section on the region details page. There you’ll see all the hiking badges for the region listed, and tapping on the hiking badge you want will take you to its details page. You can also access the regions via the search function and the “Regions” quick link. Or you can take the easiest route and simply type the region or hiking badge name directly into the search field.

SummitLynx Badges

If you're looking for a usage-based SummitLynx Challenge or a special SummitLynx badge, you'll find it listed under the “SummitLynx” region.

Here's how to find a specific hiking badge in the current Android app

When you select the menu item “Regions”, you'll see an overview of all partner regions. Here, you can choose which region you'd like to learn more about. If you are already in a partner region, the “Nearby” tab will show you all available hiking badges within that region, and under the “All” tab, you’ll find a list of other regions. The region page lists the hiking badges available there. Tap on the respective hiking badge to view the requirements for earning the badge and the list of required stamp locations, including a map view.

SummitLynx Badges

Under the last section, “More Hiking Badges”, on the regional overview page, you'll find a description of our own badges. These badges are purely virtual, so there are no physical hiking pins to redeem.

Progress on Hiking Badges

When you click on a hiking badge, the detail page of the hiking badge is shown. There you will learn all about the conditions to reach the trophy. When you have already checked in at some locations, they will be marked in the list (see screenshot). As soon as you have earned the trophy, a redeem button is shown and the hiking badge is listed in the list of your earned badges (profile - my badges).

Redeem Hiking Badges

You should only click the “Redeem Now” button when you pick up the hiking pin at the tourist office. You will see a reminder here that only employees of the tourism association should perform this procedure. If the button no longer appears, it means you have already redeemed and picked up the hiking pin.

Note: This button is not shown for our own trophies ("additional badges") as you won't get a physical badge there.

Frequently asked questions

How does the whole thing with the hiking badges work?

You can collect hiking badges with our app in our partner regions. Here you will find a list with our partners www.summitlynx.com/region

When you check in at a stamping station that is part of a hiking badge, the points will be automatically credited to your account. As soon as you complete a hiking badge, you’ll receive a notification, and the certificate will be emailed to you, provided you’ve checked the “Receive certificates” box in your settings.

You can always find an overview of the points you've earned on the specific hiking badge detail page (iOS: Search for “Hiking Badge/Region” using the search function or select “All Regions”; Android: Go to the “Regions” menu item and search for the region there). You can always find the hiking badges you've already earned under your profile (iOS app: ‘Badges’ tab; Android app: “My Badges” menu item)

As mentioned above we also have additional trophies which are not related to a partner region, but you won't get a real physical hiking badge there.

How can I redeem my hiking badges?

You mostly can redeem the hiking badges of our partner regions in the tourist office. Please show there your earned hiking badge in the app and then you will get - perhaps with a small service charge - the physical hiking badge. How and where you can redeem the hiking badges you will find on the detail page of the hiking badge.

Which effect has the redeeming of the hiking badges on my collected points?

The redeeming of the hiking badges does not have any effect on your collected points. Just the earning of the hiking badge influences the points. As soon as you have finished a hiking badge, the points for this hiking badge start again to count from zero.

How are the points credited to the hiking badges?

When you reach a stamping station that is part of one or more hiking badges, the points for that station will be credited toward all of those badges. To earn a hiking badge, you must collect points at DIFFERENT checkpoints. This means that if you visit the same location 5 times, you will only be credited with the points once for the first visit, not 5 times.

Important: There is no uniform point system across all regions; that is, the number of points for each stamp location varies by region and may differ even among different hiking badges within a single region. Our partner regions determine the number of points based on various criteria.

Can I check how many points I have collected for a check-in?

Yes, when you go to a location’s details page, you’ll always find information about which hiking badge points can be earned there (select “Maps” from the menu, search for a location, and tap on the location). If it’s already a completed tour log entry, you can find information about the hiking badge points collected on the tour log entry’s details page (tap the tour log entry).

Can I get hiking badges multiple times?

Yes, the most of the hiking badges can be collected (and redeemed) multiple times. Just a few badges can be collected one time. This is defined by our partner regions.

Our trophies (please see "Additional badges") can be earned just one time.

I have reached a hiking badge but did not get a certificate by e-mail. What happened?

There are 2 possibilities why you do not get the certificates by e-mail:

  • You deactivated the feature "Certificate received" on your profile settings.
  • You did not verify your e-mail address.

No worry, if you miss some certificates, you will be able to download them from our website (not the app) under your profile - settings - downloads.

Do former entries count automatically for new badges?

When we set up a new hiking badge, your former entries do not automatically count for this badge.

As it can be that your entries are already long ago, you may wonder why you suddenly get a hiking badge without having done something, so we decided to make it this way.

If you would like to get the points from former entries to new badges, please write a message to support@summitlynx.com and let us know the corresponding entries. We will find a solution.

Where can I see how many points there are still missing for hiking badge?

If you want to find out how many points you still need to earn a specific hiking badge, or how many points you’ve already earned toward a hiking badge, you can always check the badge’s details page (in the new iOS app, the easiest way is to use the search function; in the existing Android app, go to the “Regions” menu item). When you select your region and click on a hiking badge, you’ll see the points you’ve earned so far (123 of 456 POINTS REACHED) and the percentage, as well as the list below showing the hiking destinations you’ve already completed within that badge. As mentioned above, the destinations marked in black are the entries that count toward the current round; the destinations marked in gray were already counted toward a completed round.

I signed in at a stamp station, but I didn't collect the points for it!

Sometimes users mistakenly fail to register correctly at the stamp location, but instead use the stamp location's detail page and the “Add entry” button. In that case, the points will not be counted, as this can be done from anywhere. If this happened to you, please send us a message at support@summitlynx.com; we’ll be happy to credit you with the points retroactively.
