This intermediate to expert rated segment reveals stupendous views with grand mountain panoramas reaching in every direction, from Wilder Kaiser Range to the glimpses of the Kitzbühel Alps.
The wonderful panoramic ride high above Inneralpbach creates memories that will stay with you forever. This demanding segment has a total pedalled elevation gain of nearly 930 meters. Moreover, you will need a good level of fitness on the descent from Hornboden down to Inneralpbach as well – there you will hit a couple of S bends and you will be faced with steep pitches, which require full commitment.
Starting Point: Wiedersbergerhornbahn in Alpbach
Ride the Wiedersbergerhornbahn Gondola to the top terminal and to Hornboden on-mountain restaurant. From there, the trail passes under the gondola for a short section, before heading southwards and down a talus slope to bring you to Moserbaumgartenalm Alpine Pasture Hut, which sits 1,603 meters above sea level. The trail continues to Inneralpbach. Shortly after having reached the first homes of the village turn off to the right and continue on this road with a gradual climb towards southeast. Having passed Buamkapelle Chapel, take the left fork and cross the bridge to the north. Here is the start of a long stretch of climbing that takes you up to the highest part of the trail, 1,680 meters above sea level. It begins with a paved road that turns onto a dirt road and becomes singletrack in the end. Carry on the singletrack that crosses a talus slope on its way towards Thierbach. From there, a paved road winds down to the valley to Mühltal and a final, short climb followed by a gentle descent brings you to Niederau.
