Walk from the starting point of the Hornbahn valley station along the access road to Hagstein. At Weiler Going take the steep forest road that branches off towards Adlerhütte, Alpengasthaus. The route continues through the forest, with several serpentine bends taking you upwards. At the top, pass through clearings before reaching Adlerhütte (1 hour 15 mins from Kitzbühel), and the nearby intermediate station of the Hornbahn. Continue behind Adlerhütte, going onto a hilly path that soon merges into a forest path. From here, keep following the signs for the Kitzbüheler Horn.
The route soon crosses through a grazing area and then continues just slightly uphill beneath Wilder Hag to the hilly pastures of the Trattalms. Now you have the peak in front of you as you hike along the access road, reaching Alpenhaus first (1 hour 15 mins from Adlerhütte; mountain station section two). Continue behind that on the access road to the Kitzbüheler Horn, until you reach the entrance to the alpine flower garden.
Head across it and continue up on the way to Horngipfelhaus (50 minutes from Alpenhaus) and the transmitter on the top of the mountain. On the descent, walk back along the same route to the road junction to St. Johann in Tirol, past the impressive cross on the viewing point at around 1,900 metres altitude. Here a path well-secured by rope leads through steep terrain (instead of the Scheibersteig you can hike on the signposted circular route Hornrundwanderweg). This is a particularly spectacular section of the route on the northwest side of the Kitzbüheler Horn!
Further down, the terrain becomes flatter until you reach a road again beneath Harschbichlalm. Now either take the short section to Harschbichlalm pasture (approx. 1 hour from the Kitzbüheler Horn) and take the cable car down to the valley, or continue down in the direction of Stanglalm. Beneath Stanglalm, the route runs through a short section of forest path, before leading into a hilly section. At the next junction, keep heading for Müllneralm.
From there, follow the signs to Bassgeigeralm and on to Hirschberg guesthouse and Hochfeldalm. Following the signs leading to Buchwies, the stage leads through the forest to Hilscherpark and the valley station of the Harschbichlbahn in St. Johann in Tirol.
