Directions:
From the Scharnitz Nature Park Info Center walk to the traditional Scharnitzer Alm and along the so-called Nederweg to the entrance of the Gleirschklamm gorge. Attention: The narrow path through the gorge is only suitable for sure-footed hikers! The path impresses with imposing rock formations, small waterfalls and crystal clear water. After the gorge you reach a forest road, which you follow to the left, first downhill for a short distance and then further uphill to the Gleirschtal forest road.
Stay on this forest road further into the valley until you reach the Kristenalm junction.
If you have time and are in the mood, you can make a short stop here before continuing along the forest road for a while until you cross a stream. Cross the stream and after 20 m turn right and follow the signs to the Solsteinhaus via a narrow path. The trail first leads through forest, a gravel road and further through a mountain pine slope to the Solsteinhaus. From the Solsteinhaus follow trail no. 213 in the direction of Hochzirl, past the Solnalm and on through the Brunntal valley to Hochzirl. From Hochzirl station take the train back to Scharnitz.
Recommendation: If you want to go even higher, hike another 2 hours from the Solsteinhaus to the Großer Solstein (2,541m). An overnight stay at the Solsteinhaus is recommended. Once at the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view from the Zugspitze in the west, the Karwendel mountains in the north to the Stubaier and Zillertaler mountains in the south.
