Nordic history: When the Winter Olympics were held in Innsbruck and Tyrol in 1964, the expansive landscape of the Seefeld sun plateau was tailor-made for hosting the Nordic cross-country competitions. The success left its mark: As a result, the Region Seefeld invested in a cross-country skiing network that now encompasses a good 245 kilometers. In 1976, the Olympic flame was lit in Seefeld for the second time, in 2012 the Winter Youth Olympic Games were held on the sunny plateau, and in 1985 and 2019 also the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships were hosted in the Region of Seefeld. Thus, the scenic high plateau at 1,200 meters established itself as a true cross-country skiing El Dorado for professional and recreational athletes alike, and has ever since been considered one of the best cross-country skiing areas in the world.
Characteristics: This impressive 32-kilometer circuit with world championship challenges and original Olympic sections passes through Seefeld, Mösern and Leutasch. On the tracks of the world's best, the starting point is located directly at the famous Seekirchl, followed by the first climbs along the former World Championship route through the Mösern valley. Afterwards you’ll have to face a demanding ascent through the Kirchwald to Wildmoos, where the most beautiful, but also most demanding part of the C11 trail at the Lottensee has to be mastered. On the way back, it's a rapid downhill run to Neuleutasch and an energy-sapping climb back to Wildmoos, where a challenging descent to the starting point concludes this heroic display of peak performance.
Detailed route description: With the C1 trail from the starting point at the Seekirchl in Seefeld begins a journey through time and the major Nordic events of the region: Along the original routes of the World Championships 2019 you already take on the first section with sporty speed through the Seefeld Sports Arena with some crispy climbs along the Mösern valley. From the cross-country ski trail junction at Kirchwald, the first real challenge takes shape: Full of scenic views the enduring C2 trail climbs through the forest to Wildmoos - a particularly impressive natural idyll that can only be reached in winter on skis and hiking trails (alternatively Wildmoosbus or horse-drawn carriage). The cozy Wildmoosalm also offers a first rest here, before the most beautiful snow landscapes of this Olympic journey await along the course of B3 and C11.
Not far from the cozy Lottenseehütte, you leave the Wildmoos plateau for a wide and sunny loop along C6, C10 and A4. With the C8 you finally return to the C11 trail at the Lottensee. At this point, at the latest, a refreshing pit stop at the cozy wooden hut is a splendid idea, as the last section of the trail requires a lot of stamina, even for real pros. The B3, however, takes a relatively relaxed route back to Wildmoos, where the cozy A3 is followed by a very crisp C3. Descending for a total of five kilometers to Neuleutasch, making a loop at the inn of the same name and climbs from Unterkelle challengingly through the Köllental back to Wildmoos. Once back on the A3, you can take another deep breath before the C2 finally descends with sporty steep sections through the Schölling forest to the starting point at the Seekirchl.
