To warm up, you first head flatly back to the end of the valley at the alpine pastures of Sportgastein - past inviting alpine huts, lush green meadows and the cattle that are allowed to spend the summer in the midst of the Hohe Tauern National Park at around 1600m above sea level. Once there, you change from the forest road to a trail that leads up in numerous hairpin bends. It is worth taking a look back every now and then - the panorama over the picturesque Nassfeld, embedded in the 3000m peaks of the Hohe Tauern, is unique. Soon the Hagener Hütte is reached and invites you to a refreshment.Return to the starting point via the same path. Tip: It is also possible to walk down from the hut further south to Mallnitz and from there take the Tauernschleuse back to Gastein.
