On the western outskirts of Wangen we find a countryside of pleasing meadowland. The cycle trail dips into wooded valleys, then climbs again up green hills. A wide bend takes us through Haslach and Neukirch, located between several nature reserves, where picturesque tarns nestle among rolling hills. Shortly afterwards the road rises above the gentle curves of the wildly romantic Argen, which has carved its way deep into the landscape near the hamlet of Summerau.
In the village of Berg the terrain begins to slope and we enjoy the thrill of the sensational descent. Between the townships, apples and cherries are ripening on the trees, while the sheltered hillsides and sunny sites are covered in miles of hop fields. In between, delightful rows of grapevines stretch down to the shores of Lake Constance, thriving on the mild lakeside climate and the sundrenched, south-facing location.
After all the different landscapes and the cultural highlights of Upper Swabia, we now coast into Kressbronn. Particularly worthy of note in this holiday resort is the little castle with its museum. On display at the exhibition are historical models of ships produced by Ivan Trtanj with wonderful attention to detail.
Finally we cross the little park and go down to the lakeside. The breathtaking panorama of Lake Constance against the backdrop of the Alps stretching beyond the opposite shore provides a fitting end to a cycle tour of more than 160 km along the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Route.
