Hikers walk through sublime beech forests that revel in the nutrient surplus of the basalt rock. A lush herb layer with forest orchid, Bingelkraut and forest barley, here and there silver leaf, as well as straight-grown beeches are their trademark. From the heights, small streams wind through block-rich beds and carve narrow valleys. Nestled in the woods rest flowery forest meadows with daisies and knapweeds. Old chestnut avenues impress, offering their fruits to deer and wild boars in autumn. Again and again the forest opens up to wide huts with mighty hute trees and thorny undergrowth, over which herds of horses and Galloways move.
