On almost 53 kilometres and 3,200 metres of ascent, you will discover impressive and traditional locations: the magnificent view from Waidring's local mountain; the natural jewel Pillersee; the Jakobskreuz on the Buchensteinwand, visible from afar and, last but not least, the legendary Wildseelodersee.
Stage 1: Waidring - Hausberg / Schaflberg / Kirchberg - St. Ulrich am Pillersee
The first stage takes you from Waidring, the historic ‘church and post village’ to the Hausberg. From there, the route first leads to Oberweißbach and then over alpine pastures to the Schafelberg and Kirchberg. Again and again, you can catch marvellous panoramic views from the mountain pine fields in all directions and enjoy the tranquillity of the mountain world. Via the Winterstelleralm you hike down to the Lindtalalm. Here you turn left in the direction of St. Ulrich am Pillersee. Passing the mountain pine distillery, you reach the first stage destination - the centre of St. Ulrich am Pillersee.
Stage 2: St. Ulrich am Pillersee - Buchensteinwand - Fieberbrunn
The second stage leads from St. Ulrich a.P. in the direction of St. Jakob in Haus. The picturesque hamlet of ‘Flecken’ is a highlight of this stage. Beautiful old farms are lined up around the village fountain and bear witness to living tradition. The route continues past the Pillersee mountain railway - which, by the way, serves as an alternative energy-saving ascent aid to Jakobsruz - to the St. Jakob in Haus sports ground. From here, the trail leads over the ‘Katzeneck’ to the Buchensteinwand, where the next highlight of the tour awaits! The 30 metre high and fully accessible Jakobskreuz! You stand in front of it almost in awe and are amazed not only by its size, but also by the far-reaching view of the surrounding mountains from the very top. The tour continues directly from the Buchensteinwand via the Tennalm and the hamlets of Schönau and Pertrach to the centre of Fieberbrunn - the second stage destination on the WaiWi.
Stage 3: From Fieberbrunn to the Wildseelodersee lake
This stage starts with a hike to the valley station of the Fieberbrunn mountain railway (here the Streubödenbahn serves as an alternative ascent aid to the Lärchfilzkogel). For all those who manage the third stage destination on foot, the route continues via the Krottenweg and quite shady hiking trails up to the Lärchfilzhochalm. Passing the Grießenbodenalm, you reach the Wildalmen Fieberbrunn. Once here, you can already see the shingle-covered mountain hut - the Wildseeloderhaus, which is also the third stage destination of the WaiWi. On the way up, your gaze repeatedly falls on the right-hand side, the northern slope of the Wildseeloder. In winter, the world's best freeriders actually show off their skiing skills here as part of the Freeride World Tour (the only stop in German-speaking countries). On the last steps of the tour, you can already see the small chapel, behind which lies the deep black-blue Wildseelodersee, nestled between Wildseeloder and Henne. Now, at the end of stage three, Tyrolean delicacies and cosiness await to round off the day.
Stage 4: From the Wildseelodersee lake to the Wildseeloder summit and down to Fieberbrunn
The fourth stage of the ‘WaiWi’ starts up here at the Wildseelodersee! Energised by a delicious mountain breakfast, we head up to the summit of the ‘Loder’ (2,118 m), as it is called by the locals. In the middle of the Kitzbühel Alps, you are right at the top, with seemingly limitless views! Time to pause and look back on the route, the WaiWi with all its highlights, before embarking on the last section of the tour, the descent to Fieberbrunn. Via the Seenieder, the Wildalm and the Brentalm down towards the valley. Passing the Lauchsee bathing lake, you reach Fieberbrunn and discover two cultural features below the church: the sculpture of a mining miner, a reminder of the tradition and hardships of the past in the valley, and the Fieberbrunnen fountain, which cured the princess Margarethe Maultasch of her fever and thus gave the village its name. The third stage ends at the square in front of the community centre, the summit of the Wildseeloder looks down and behind you lies the WaiWi.
