Many hundreds of years ago, at the highest farm in the Wipptal, the Hochgeneiner Hof at 1668 meters, lived a giant-like man. Today, when the people of our valleys sit together in comfort, they still tell stories about this legendary figure. He was a giant, as strong as a bull. With giant steps and without stopping, he carried a large sack of salt from the Hall salt works up to his mountain farm.
Dear hiker, the time of giants and legendary figures is over. What has remained, however, is the mountain landscape that has produced such healthy and strong people. If you hike in the Wipptal today and climb to the summits of the mountains, you may still feel something of the elemental power of these legendary figures.
