The hike starts at the hiking starting point Tannbichl (pay & display). Pass the barrier and hike the path always in the direction of the Wilder Kaiser. After about 200 meters you will reach a well trough, which is fed by the springs of the Wilder Kaiser. Here you can fill up your water bottle with the crystal-clear mountain spring water.
Passing the Tannbichl chapel, you will reach a fork in the road where you keep left and follow the signs to Baumgartenköpfl.
Via the Gildensteig, trail no. 813, you will reach the "Mahlereck", a nice point of view. You keep on hiking to the Baumgartenköpfl. Take a moment to pause at the famous Bergsteigergrab, the final resting place of the renowned climber nicknamed “Koasamuch” and enjoy the fantastic view at this ‘power place’ of going. The bench invites you to linger.
After a short rest, follow the signs "Ackerlhütte", trail no. 828. After about 45 min you will reach the Ackerlhütte at 1.455 m. (Drinks on sale only on weekends) Follow trail no. 817 and down the Stiegenbach waterfall until you reach the Buchwald-Breitau junction. Turn right on the trail no. 822 in direction "Gaudeamushütte". After about 500 m you reach a forest road and follow it uphill to the next fork. Hike along trail no. 822 and follow the signs to the hiking starting point Tannbichl back to your starting point.
