The Korntauern is a historically significant mountain pass which, at an elevation of 2,459 m above sea level, connects Anlauftal (a side valley of Gastein Valley) with Seebachtal in Carinthia. This hike begins from the big Tauernbach stream in Anlauftal, leading into the valley to the Tauernstein. From here, we ascend the Mindener Jubiläumssteig, a trail which is actually the shortest link between the northern and southern sides of the main Alpine divide, bringing us to the Korntauern. Once we have reached the pass heights, it will be time to enjoy the magnificent views â of Carinthia and the surrounding Hohe Tauern peaks. Our descent takes us along a 6,000-year-old path once used by traders, down to the mid-station of the Ankogelbahn. You have the option of returning on the Tauernschleuse from Mallnitz to Böckstein, a motorail train which runs every hour.
