Whether it's the ice-cold mountain water from the fountain or the fantastic sunrise over the mountains opposite: a hike start on a high-altitude alpine pasture like the Biberalm is always something very special. The peace and freshness at the same time is simply a luxury that cannot be obtained in the valley. And this also applies to the high-altitude hike to the stage destination at the mountain station of the Schlossalmbahn: over remote alpine pastures, through fragrant forests and finally through an archaic cirque landscape, you always hike high above the Gastein Valley with magnificent views of the highest grassy mountains in the Alps to the Kleine Scharte not far from the Schlossalm mountain station. Here the scenery changes abruptly: the infrastructure of the “adventure mountain” may no longer offer the peace and silence of the previous hours, but all kinds of experiences such as viewing platforms, slackline park and much more.
When it comes to overnight stays, you are spoilt for choice: either you take the cable car down into the valley to Bad Hofgastein and enjoy the amenities of the valley again after two nights on alpine pastures. Or you can spend the night in the modern Hofgasteinerhaus of the Naturfreunde Alpine Club, which is about a ten-minute walk from the mountain station.
