Attention: Access to the Langer Grund valley in Kelchsau is closed! Due to construction work on a small hydroelectric power station, access to the Langer Grund valley will be closed from 12.10.2020 until presumably autumn 2021. Starting point: free car park P3 at the Wasserfeld in Hopfgarten. (after the Hopfgarten information office, continue along the main road in the direction of Kitzbühel, turn right after the railway underpass over the bridge). From the Wasserfeld car park, the route leads along the road in the direction of Kelchsau. Now always head into the valley through the village of Kelchsau until you reach the toll booth. Here the trail splits left into the Kurzer Grund valley and right into the Langer Grund valley, where the destination of the route, the Tiefentalalm, is also located. From here it is another 12 kilometres or so of continuous ascent. Always along the idyllic stream, the trail now leads on a forest road into the Langer Grund (cycle path number 226) first to the Moderstock Alpine Inn and then further on gravel to the Erla Brennhütte. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet with breathtaking views of the untouched nature of what is probably the most beautiful side valley of the Kitzbühel Alps. The Kelchsau is one of the largest alpine pasture areas in Tyrol. In summer, around 3,900 animals graze here, of which around 3,500 are cattle. In this extensive alpine area with its healthy and lush alpine meadows and its alpine herbs, man, animal and nature still live in harmony. From here you can now continue over several alpine pastures to the head of the valley to Tiefental. The Tiefentalm awaits you there. With an age of around 500 years, it is one of the oldest still preserved alpine huts in Tyrol (no bar). Take the same route to return to the starting point
