The geological path begins at the car park “Köglboden” and ends at the “Gufferthütte” mountain hut. This geological path leads through the upper “Ampelsbach- and Filzmoosbach gorge”. 11 display boards along the path explain the long and exciting history of our Alps. Hikers on the nature trail can view rock layers that were deposited on the North African continental shelf over a period of about 110 million years ago in the Mesozoic area with its ages Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. The rock formations on this “excursion through millions of years of geological history” literally correspond to a stratigraphic table.
The hike back via Tirol‘s oldest Rhaetian inscriptions found in a semi-cave at the foot of the “Schneidjoch” (see description under Steinberg) is particularly worthwhile. Walking time: approx. 1 hour from Gufferthütte
