This trail running route leads from Bad Hofgastein up to the imposing Hirschkarspitze and is a real insider tip for technically experienced runners. The ascent to the Maurachalm requires a good level of fitness right from the start - an easy trail winds its way through shady forest passages and across alpine pastures before the terrain becomes increasingly alpine. From the alpine pasture onwards, it becomes more challenging: narrow paths and steadily increasing metres in altitude make for intense exertion. The section to the Hirschkarspitze requires surefootedness and stamina, but the view from the summit cross makes up for it with a spectacular panorama of the Hohe Tauern and the Gastein Valley. Take a short break, recharge your batteries - then the downhill begins - partly on forest roads and partly on paths - back down to lower altitudes. This tour is ideal for experienced trail runners who are looking for a challenge and scenic variety in equal measure. Lonely paths, sections with great views and crisp metres in altitude - an intense experience off the beaten track.
