Arzberg

A place that has much to offer both in the past and present!

The name Arzberg is derived from mining lead ores in the locality, with the first documented mention found in 1242.

With the beginning of mining, the first church in Arzberg was also built—presumably by miners. Up until 1927, everything revolved around the extraction of silver, lead, and zinc, after which operations ceased due to insufficient yield.

Parts of the mine are still accessible today and can be explored during guided tours. Another part of the tunnel has been converted and now serves as an aging cellar for the award-winning tunnel cheese made from local milk. The region is also ideal for hiking, particularly a tour through the Raab Gorge, which is especially worth seeing.
