The "Toter Mann" is actually a crossroads with a chapel and a bench in the middle of the forest.
On your way to Wildwiese, you pass the distinctive location "Toter Mann," which features a chapel at a crossroads between Wenigzell, Strallegg, Vorau, Ratten, and Miesenbach. According to legend, a penitent on a pilgrimage to Mariazell with his wife died here. Farmers later built a chapel over his grave. His wife continued the pilgrimage to Mariazell and later died in the Mürztal near Frein, which led to the area being named Totes Weib.
In reality, the "Toter Mann" is a broad, easily accessible hilltop where many roads converge. The term "Toter Mann" comes from the Celtic (TOTA = people/tribe, MAGOS = field).
