Wilhelm Mundt‘s iconic sculpture Trashstone 689, from the series of the same name, is reminiscent of the early silver finds in the mining region. The elegantly reflective aluminum surface of the sculpture encloses a hermetic inner world, which, according to the artist, consists of production residues from the studio but remains hidden from the viewer. German artist Wilhelm Mundt was born in Grevenbroich in 1959. Still based in Germany, he lives and works in Rommerskirchen. He also teaches at the Dresden University of Fine Arts. The first silver discovery in the Ore Mountains probably took place right next door, on the Schüppchenberg. Carters from the Harz Mountains found lumps of ore on the rutted salt road on the Schüppchenberg, which they melted down. As a result, the ore found was very rich in silver, so the miners from the Harz moved to the Ore Mountains.
