The circular hike starts at the car park below the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn valley station. Follow the forest path on the right to the Hochthörle hut. A signposted path leads past the hut on the right to the Lake Eibsee viewing point. At the Lake Eibsee viewing point and Schützensteig junction turn right onto the Schützensteig and follow the trail along the Bavarian border to the wayside shrine. The route back leads further over the Schützensteig and the Söldentalweg to the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn valley
