From the car park, the trail first leads through larch forests and meadows to the Isse-Alm in the Wildlahnertal valley, which lies on a small plateau immediately after the timberline. When you reach the Isse-Alm, you also have a view of the mighty Olperermassiv with its glaciers, which remains a constant companion from now on. The trail continues along a cart track through flowers and alpine meadows to a hilltop - from here, the last steep ascent leads up to the Steinernen Lamm, the highest point of the tour. Once you have reached it, the view widens again, the Schrammacher, the high, wild Sag walls and also the contours of the Geraerhütte become visible. In this beautiful landscape it is possible to endure for a while, only a short, slightly descending march has to be overcome. The hut itself, tastefully renovated just a few years ago, is a real eye-catcher. It invites you to indulge in culinary delights on the sun terrace in a wonderful ambience.
DIRECTIONS From the car park, after crossing the bridge, follow the forest path for a good hour up to the Isse-Alm. Again and again you can take shortcuts along small paths so that you don't have to go out every loop. There is also a "Marterl" along the way, as well as a spring that offers wonderfully cold water. Finally, when you leave the tree line, you reach the plateau of the Isse-Alm, and you can also see a small hut. Here the Wildlahn valley opens up and wide pastures become visible. Continue along a cart track, always straight into the valley, until you finally reach a small knoll. Marked by a sign, the paths separate here: one continues directly towards the Olperer, the other branches off to the right and winds its way up to the Steinernen Lamm. The following 400-metre climb is the steepest and most demanding of the tour, but once you reach the ridge, you are rewarded with a wonderful view of the steep walls of the Fusstein, Schrammacher and Sagwand. With a little imagination, you can also recognise a stone formation that resembles a sitting sheep, the eponym of the "Steinerne Lamm". The Steinerne Lamm is also the highest point of the tour. Now the trail only descends slightly to the Geraerhütte. To do so, simply follow the well-marked path in a southerly direction, which initially remains fairly constant and later winds parallel along a ditch, slightly downhill towards the hut. Finally, you have to cross the ditch, for which a recently built metal bridge is available. Now you have reached the final destination of the tour, the Geraerhütte.
TIP OF THE AUTHOR A stop at the Geraerhütte is almost a must. From a culinary point of view, it is, in my opinion, one of the best that Tyrol has to offer. The ambience on the sun terrace is also unique.
