By car, drive to the Fanningberg valley station (car park). Below the Samsonbahn cable car, turn right across the small car park to the Aibl circular trail no. 48, which you follow for approx. 0:20 hours. 100 metres before the Schitterhütte, the path divides and you hike to the right into the alpine pastures of the Fanningberg with the
great panorama of the Lungau. Hike over the Aibl to the small saddle, then along the ridge to the Zechnerriegel 2,115 m (summit cross) and on to the Fanninghöhe 2,115 m (summit cross & hiking stamp).
There you are rewarded with a marvellous view of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Continue to the mountain station of the 6-seater Samsonbahn cable car at 2,020 m (Gamsstadl refreshment stop). From there, you hike downhill along the path via the Zirmbar (refreshment stop), on towards the Sauschneideralm
(refreshment stop) and back to the valley station (refreshment stop Kräutlhütte or Rucksackl).
