The trail spans 12 stages, repeatedly leading from the valley across rivers and meadows up to scenic highlands. Like a ribbon, it winds its way between the towns in the valley and the wild and romantic mountain villages on the sunny side. From the lower valley floor adorned with sun-yellow wildflowers to the highest-altitude church village in Austria at 1,930 meters, the trail descends into the valley. Deep within the valley, close to the glaciers, the path brings you up close with many towering peaks over 3,000 meters, such as the Wildspitze or the Similaun, the true stars of the Ötztal. On the return journey, you descend again to more climatically favorable areas and fertile soil where fruit cultivation is practiced. The hiking trail can be started from any location, with plenty of parking available. For any return transport, there is a good bus network available!
