Val Gardena: South Tyrolean Charm between Bressanone and Bolzano

The Val Gardena, lies between Bressanone and Bolzano and it has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its natural treasures, such as the Sassolungo mountain, the Sella group and the nature park Puez-Odle.

As soon as you explore the Val Gardena on foot, while climbing or with your mountain bike, you will soon find out that in contrast to the ragged mountains the people here are quite cheerful. Val Gardena offers 600 km of well-maintained and well-marked hiking trails and 16 lifts to reach those at high altitude. Mountain biking has also grown a lot in recent years, the valley is a real paradise and offers the opportunity to have fun on about 600 km of trails. Between Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva you can choose from twenty-two excursions. Val Gardena is also the only “Bike Approved Area” in South Tyrol. In Val Gardena the palate is pampered by a thousand delicious dishes that recall the rustic Ladin gastronomic traditions, consisting of exquisite cheeses, butter, yoghurt and alpine pasture ricotta cheese, mushrooms, polenta, game, speck, berries and the inevitable apples.

Selva/Wolkenstein: for sportspeople

As the German name might suggest, Wolkenstein is the village which comes closest to heaven. The picturesque village lies at 1.563 metres above sea level, at the foot of the magnificent Sella group and the Sassolungo. In summer, Selva is extremely popular due to its trend towards „pure nature”. Inviting walking routes, beautiful mountain trails, breath-taking climbing routes and – why not – simply relaxation and rest. This all will the unique UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites mountains as a backdrop.

S. Cristina: for sun-seekers

S. Cristina, the centre of the Val Gardena is located at 1.428 metres above sea level, and is an idyllic, sun-kissed alpine village, which will leave you breathless for its stunning view. It is where traditions and culture meet modern lifestyle and the best place where you can experience amazing feelings. Thanks to its central location it is the ideal starting point for exciting hikes in the Puez-Odle Nature Park and attractive walks to Monte Pana, an oasis of relaxation for the whole family.

Ortisei: Art, culture and sports

Ortisei, the relaxing main village of the Val Gardena, is located at 1.236 metres above sea level and is an ideal starting point for hikers.
