The marked hike begins in Schönfeld at the Dr Josef Mehrl hut and leads past the meanders of the Kremsbach stream a little way into the Rosanintal valley, then turning right up to the Altenberg . Follow the signs for the miners' hiking trail, which is also a section of the high-altitude hiking trail no. 125 to the original sites of ore mining, which are clearly explained on the information boards. To descend into the valley, take the same route again.
There is also the option of descending to Innerkrems, which increases the distance, metres in altitude and walking time considerably. The former ore trail leads to collapsed tunnel mouth holes, ore and spoil heaps from iron mining. A restored powder tower and a miner's house at with documentation on ore mining from earlier times can be found at opposite the lift car park in Schönfeld.
