The starting point for this hike is the mountain station of the Schlossalmbahn. The route leads via an old connecting trail, the “Hermann-Kreilinger-Steig”, in the direction of the Rockfeldalm (a staffed hut). Surefootedness and a head for heights are an absolute must on this stage of the hike. The sight of the Gadaunerer Hochalmen directly opposite gives you a clear sense of how many mountain huts are open in summer, serving up homemade bacon, butter, cheese – it’s enough to make your mouth water. And the mere thought propels you forward. Particularly striking are the grassy alpine hillsides, which are actually mowed every summer. Hard farm work at such high elevations – rather impressive! Many haylofts flank the path, with the fragrance of fresh hay floating in the air. With the summer wind at our back, we cross lush alpine meadows on our way to the Gadaunerer Hochalmen. From here, we can clearly see the Hermann-Kreilinger-Steig – the steep grassy hillsides are very impressive. As is the view of the Türchlwand and the Sieben Spitz. Our descent takes us along a path through a dense forest of spruce and back down to Angertal.
