It's time to get up early if you don't want to be too much plagued by the sun on the way to the summit of the 2,741 metre-high Preber. If you have a vehicle at your disposal, it's better to forgo your usual breakfast and drive through the dawning day towards Prebersee (1,514 m). There is also a bus service there. At Prebersee, a track branches off to the left of the road into the mostly spruce forest. Red-white-red markings and an Alpine Club signpost point the way to the Preber. Following the markings, you will see the Prodingeralm at 1,734 m (not serviced) after a moderate ascent of approx. 1 hour. Here you have a beautiful view of the Preber, the summit of which you first have to earn by climbing a steeper ascent! From the
Prodingeralm, turn half right through a short section of forest to the Preber-Halterhütte (1,862 m). Turn half-right again on alpine pastures towards the large hollow that descends from the Preber, which runs out to the left into a broad ridge that is the most favourable ascent option until you reach the Rossscharte, crossing to the right just below the summit ascent. From here, after a short but steep climb over the rocks of the summit ascent, you reach the summit and are now 2,741 metres above everyday life. After a rest at the summit, take the ascent path back to the Rossscharte.
