Over 100 years ago, the Similaun Hütte was built at an elevation of 3,019 meters and has since become a popular base for summit ascents. The site of the "Ötzi" mummy is located about 1 hour away. The hut sits on the Schnalskamm ridge, which forms the border between North Tyrol (Austria) and South Tyrol (Italy).

The trail starts in Vent, passing through the Niedertal valley to the Martin-Busch-Hütte. From there, head north through Niedertal to the Ötzi archaeological site, then over a morainic ridge to reach the Similaun Hütte (approx. 4-hour hike).
