On the way from Pöllau to the pilgrimage church of Pöllauberg, you will find the Sacred Heart Church with the Calvary.
The Calvary Church, located in the Pöllauer Valley Nature Park, was built in 1699 and expanded to its current size by Pöllau master builder Remigius Horner in 1750. In 1776, the interior was adorned with ceiling paintings by Johann Adam von Mölck. The high altar from the time of construction deepens the patronage of this church: the sacred heart of Jesus as the focal point of the Passion. A lamentation group (Pieta) ultimately refers to the adjacent Calvary right behind the church. The oldest parts are the crucifixion group and the figure of the repentant Peter from 1706. Additionally, a larger Heart of Mary Chapel, built in 1715 by Remigius Horner, was added. Matthias von Görz created the rosary images in this chapel, which further the theme of the Sacred Heart Church, from the Son of God to the Mother of God. In 1774, the path from Pöllau to the Calvary was adorned with Stations of the Cross. The current frescoes are by Felix Barazutti and were created in 1919.
Opening hours: This church is not typically open. However, visiting the Stations of the Cross is possible at any time.
